Civil Status

The Consular section in Ottawa is entitled to record and issue civil status documents to the Algerian nationals residing in Canada as acts that could be used in Canadian territories relevant to its administrative circumscription.

Those acts can be recorded on the Embassy' civil status book at the request of the registered person or a member of his/her family if he/she is deceased.

They are related to the following events:

•  Marriages,

•  Births,

•  Decease

It is worthy to note that the registration of civil status acts on the Embassy's civil status books gives the advantage to be issues civil status acts by the Embassy's consular section as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Algiers (General Department for Consular Affairs).

The requester should provide:

a- to record a marriage:

•  The original copy of the act or certificate of marriage,

•  A birth certificate of a spouse, if the latter is not yet registered,

•  The payment of the fiscal stamp of an amount of CAN$13 for the establishment of a family record book

The payment of the fees related to the establishment of a family record book can be made either cash exclusively in our offices or by money order or certified cheque issued in the name of the Algerian Embassy in Ottawa .

We regret we cannot accept personal cheques

b- To record a birth:

•  For residents from the Québécoise cities and the Outaouais:

- The original copy of the birth certificate and the family record book.

•  For residents of the Ontario and other Canada 's West provinces:

- The original copy certified in conformity with the document “statement of live birth” issued by the General Registrar's Office,

- The family record book.

c- To record a deceased

- A death certificate issued by the municipality of the death's place.
