Consular Registration

What does the Consular Registration mean?

It allows the Algerian citizen:

•  to benefit from the consular protection,

•  to be issued, within the regulation, any identity, travel or civil status administrative documents , etc.

•  the registration also allows the registered citizen to benefit within the conditions stipulated in the law, from the exoneration of custom's taxes on personal effects and the imported vehicle while returning for good to Algeria .

•  To be registered in the electoral list and participate, at the level of the registration office, in his/her country's political life though the different elections organized in Algeria .

Who can be registered?

Any Algerian citizen, regularly resident abroad, can register at the Embassy or the Consulate of the district of the place of his permanent residence.

Any Algerian, who is of age of 19 years old, can be registered on a purely principal basis.

The spouse of the main registered, holding the Algerian nationality and the under age children are registered on a purely subsidiary basis.

The single, widowed or divorced woman is registered on a purely principal basis

What are the requirements for a first registration?

- Copy of the Algerian Identity Card *

- Birth Certificate

- Algerian Nationality Certificate, for lack of this document, the applicant can:

•  If born in Algeria , provide his father's birth certificate

•  If born abroad, provide two birth certificates of the paternal ascendants who were born in Algeria

- Copy of the residence certificate as prove of regular stay in Canada *

- Proof of employment (Work Certificate or school registration certificate for students),

- Proof of address (copy of the tenancy agreement, title deed or for lack of these documents, please provide a copy of the telephone or cable bills),

- (4) four recent and same print photographs *

- A prepaid envelop for returning the documents,

- A Marriage certificate if the applicant is married

- A birth certificate for each under age child

NOTA:

  • Documents with asterisk should be also provided by the wife holding the Algerian nationality.
  • Nationals who previously registered themselves in a consular mission should request the transfer of their records by submitting their registration cards to our services. The documents to be provided for this case will be requested upon receipt of the records

The Registration Card's issuance is free.

It is valid for five (05) years. The holder can request the renewal of his/her card when it expires.

 

RENEWING THE CONSULAR REGISTRATION CARD:

The following documents are requested:

Proof of residency

Proof of professional activity (original copy of work certificate, school registration certificate for students). Those two first documents are to be provided in the event that a change of residence or activity occur since the last registration. Two recent same print photographs, the old registration card. The form provided by the Consular Section and available on this site, fully completed.

Modification of personal or family status of the registered person.

The registered person is invited to notify the Consular Section of any important modification to his/her personal or family status: marriage, birth, divorce, job, etc.

Change of address

It is highly recommended to inform the Consular Registration Section of any change of address.

The Algerian nationals residing in Canada who reached the age of 19 are invited to register themselves as main registers.
