The signing ceremony for renewing the agreement in the field of higher education between Canada and Algeria was held in Quebec City, in June 23rd, 2011. This agreement allows Algerian students eligible to benefit from the increased tuition fees’ exemption, upon registration in Quebec universities.
This agreement, which comes into force upon signature, shows a decrease in the total number of exemptions for Algerian scholars exemptions, which is now eighty-three (83) and a switch towards the second and third cycles (Master and Phd) in accordance with the new policy decided by the Quebec authorities towards all countries benefiting from these exemptions.
The exemptions per cycle are now as follows:
1. 31 exemptions for the first cycle
2. 42 exemptions for the second cycle
3. 10 exemptions for the third cycle
Quebec authorities have agreed to allow all Algerian students currently receiving the tuition fees increased exemption, to continue to do so until the end of their school.
However, applications from new students will be admissible from the end of 2012, when the number of beneficiaries will be lower than the quota granted by the new agreement, fixed at eighty-three (83).
